Sambazon Acai Smoothie Packs.

If you follow me on instagram you know of my serious acai obsession. I have it at least a few times a week either at home or my local juice bar Raw Juce which has the BEST acai bowls EVER. Ok, maybe not EVER but they are pretty damn good. So anyway, when my obsession began I first found the Sambazon acai powder on Vitacost (which really does last 30 servings btw); then I discovered the Sambazon acai smoothie packs at my local Whole Foods. While I would say they both have a similar flavor I like to use the smoothie packs more because they are individually separated and cold already, while the powder I have to mix overnight and have it cold for my morning breakfast. I have the acai smoothie/bowl about mastered and my preferred method of blending includes 1 banana, some almond milk and fresh berries for a more tart taste. There’s a reason the acai bowls that are made for you cost $10 a pop – because they are topped with tons of great healthy stuff that can be expensive. I order these toppings through Vitacost or get them at my local TJ Maxx or Marshalls – they always have great prices on tons of health foods! My favorite acai add ons are: chia seeds, hemp seeds, granola, coconut flakes and honey on top. The Happiness Project.

For the past few months I have been carrying a very heavy weight around with me that has been dimming my usual happy spirit. A close family member of mine struggles with bipolar depression and this illness has become my main worry, the theme of my prayers and essentially my enemy. My goal in life is to help this person triumph over this illness and achieve happiness, but in trying to help so hard I have put a lot of strain on my own happiness in the process. Sometimes I even feel guilty for how happy I feel because they cannot feel the same way. This issue has been effecting my family for a long time and I have learned over the years that this is not something that can easily be fixed, which is heartbreaking as I am a fixer and want to make everything a fairytale. Accepting that everything can’t be perfect is like accepting defeat at this point, which breaks my heart, but I always hold out hope and have faith that this person can come back from depression and be better than ever before.

I truly believe that by leading a healthy lifestyle you can gain control of your happiness. I don’t just mean working out and eating clean to be healthy, I mean keeping a healthy mind and spirit as well which requires activley practicing mental exercises. I am not saying that being healthy will cure depression, but I am saying it can make it less painful to live with. In my effort to help this person on their path to happiness and wellness I realized that I need to be more mindful of my own state of mind as well, so I have launched The Happiness Project as a personal project for myself to ensure I am not drowned out at sea carrying this weight. Hilary’s Eat Well Burgers.

Good morning, hope you survived Monday! Today we are talking about these amazing new veggie burgers I am crushing on. I have tried a lot of the veggie burgers in the frozen section and frankly, many of them just don’t do it for me. So when I tried Hilary’s Eat Well burgers I was prepared to not like them. Except I LOVED them and now am obsessed with them because they taste  a lot like my beloved Qrunch burgers I used to be obsessed with but can never find in the store. I think it is the mix of quinoa and millet in these burgers that I love so much. These are also boyfriend approved. Another major reason to love Hilary’s Eat Well products are because they are vegan, use all organic products and all natural ingredients that can actually be pronounced. Not to mention they only take about 3 minutes to cook on the stove top and you are done. Quick, easy and healthy – what else can we ask for? Here is how I prepare my Hilary’s Eat Well Burgers:

March Moments.

March was a month full of clean eating, bootcamp and clean eating recipes galore. I have been having so much fun coming up with quick and easy clean eating/raw recipes lately that it has become my part time job. Mainly I just chop up things or mix stuff, I wouldn’t really call it cooking, but it is more than I ever did in a kitchen before so I have come a long way. I have been thinking of creating some videos showing you how to create my favorite go-to recipes…let me know what you think about this and the recipes you would like to see in the comments below. Tips for Toned Abs.

Gone are the days of thinking that hundreds of crunches will get you flat abs, now you can get them with simple HIIT moves a few times a week plus lots of clean eating. Even though it has become a cliche statement on Pinterest, when they say “abs are made in the kitchen” they aren’t lying. Before I really jumped into eating clean and raw I always had a flat stomach, but I wouldn’t describe it as toned or defined. Now that I have embraced a clean lifestyle my abs finally have definition and I believe it is due to the lifestyle I have come to know as normal, which is: Clean Eating + HIIT Workouts 3 times a week. I do not work out every day, I do not do crunches every day; there are weekends I don’t work out at all – because I already did my HIIT workouts for the week and am eating so clean I don’t have to. Once I realized that you don’t need to be in the gym every night of the week it was like a lightbulb went off in my head. HIIT workouts are so intense and such short spurts of energy that you burn so much more than becoming a local gym rat and you have time for other things, like living. Peanut Butter Protein Balls.

Over the past few weeks I have tried to make some simple ingredient protein balls and they have not turned out very well. I was feeling a little discouraged but figured I would try something new by incorporating my new Designer Whey chocolate protein powder into my recipe. Let me just say, these peanut butter protein bites turned out so great and they are the perfect snack pre and post workout, or simply for dessert. I found that the key to making the perfect tasting protein ball is in the ratio of ingredients you use and the type of protein powder you choose.

1/2 Cup natural peanut butter
1/2 Cup oats
2 tbsp Honey
2 tbsp Designer Whey Chocolate Protein Powder

Mix all ingredients together, form spoonfuls into bite-sized balls, freeze & enjoy!

Make Your Own Chia Pod.

I had heard about Chia Pods before because they have Kelly Slater as their spokesperson and my bf is a huge Kelly Slater fan. If you don’t know who Kelly Slater is, check this out and thank me later. Chia Pods contain one full serving of Australian-grown sun-ripened Chia seeds mixed with coconut milk and real fruit; just three ingredients and no added sugar. I was stoked to find out about them, but then I realized that they were only in Austalia and was bummed until I walked into my local Fresh Market and randomly found some Chia Pods to sample. Score. The pods are great, but gone way too fast. For those of you who don’t have a nearby store that carries them or want a bigger batch of the chia goodness, I have created a simple recipe to make your own Chia Pod at home.
